Marathon Splendor
This morning I got up at 4:15 and prepared myself for the marathon. Meticilous on every part of my dressing and eating. Music to pump me up and let me focus on the race that was about to rain. The only distraction was a light rain at 6am which got everyone questioning their running strageties. Luckily, the rain subsided and then ended within 20 minutes.
Overall, the race went as plan. The only factor I was afraid of was the wind and sun - two elements that all racers despise. Luckily, the wind and sun held off until 8:30 or so. However, they took their toll on me. I've never been a good runner in the wind and I often wither under the sun. I knew that I wouldn't match my 1:22 half marathon split for the second half. However, like all runners, I knew that I needed to run hard, no excuses; one foot in front of the other, keep moving. At the end I saw the mile 26 marker and I knew I was almost done. I didn't hear my name called, but I heard the announcer mention that I was from Mt. Vernon. My final time, a PR.
I'm feeling pretty good right now. But I'll have to put that aside soon and start planning for that next race.
