A new era...

It has been reported that Chief Justice Rehnquist has passed away. The impact of his death will reverbrate through Congress as well as the Bush administration tomorrow and the future. While there was debate over the first nomination candidate to replace Justice O'Connor, I truly believe we will see greater scrutiny over the new candidate. The balance of the Supreme Court will be decided by the new candidate. Of course, the core issues will come up - abortion, marriage (sexual orientation), and ethnicity. I'm not sure how the Supreme Court became such a political sphere since its primary function is to be a check on the Executive Branch by interpreting the law based on the Constitution.
